Libra Season
Air portals opened as the light descends...
You will come to see that this was written in the waning days of introspective, analytical, overly scrutinized Virgo season, as I cover a lot of ground in regards to the many aspects and shifts underway. I hope the litany of details written about here actually provide a helpful map of all that is happening, especially in the lead up to eclipse season in a few weeks. If it’s all a bit too much, just wait for my next seasonal writing, I promise it won’t be as insanely detailed ;)
Late September 22nd / early 23rd marks the autumnal equinox when the Sun in relation to Earth streams in the cardinal Air energy of Libra. Night and day make a truce of equal power for a few days. As Venus rules Libra, she mediates this truce every year, channeling her diplomatic and relational harmony to come to a neutral point of reality in the realms of relationships, society at large and the ways we interact with said realities. Cardinal Air brings an initiatory quality, think of the directional nature of wind and how quickly it can switch between a powerful singular direction and then suddenly feel like its coming from all directions and its power becomes dispersed. That kind of sums up Libra in an elemental way, initiating processes, relationships and projects and then poof, the energy is moving in seven different directions and one is left wondering wtf just happened and where did the initial force go?
The Sun is in a waning opposition to Neptune and trine to Pluto as it crosses this threshold. Long held cultural structures built upon delusion and trauma were being lit up in the final days of Virgo season, now the vital force of our world has to deal with the reckoning of what was constructed, whether we like it, or are even willing and able to see it, or not. The surface level, which is where Libra likes to play, may potentially be one of greater chaos as things once held solid literally fly up in the air. Another reorganization is underway, understanding this and letting go of the expectation that everything must and will just fall back into familiar places immediately will lead to greater misunderstandings. The Sun, turning into the autumnal season where the ancestors and hidden energies start to become louder, is initiating us as gently as possible, with Venus’ charm, into the deeper work that will come later this year. Setting oneself up for this by holding a personal ritual at this time may be helpful to receive your personal map for navigating what you are being called to do, where to be, etc…
Venus is still traversing the last 10 degrees of her shadow imprint in Leo at this time as well, so continue paying attention to the themes that have been present for you this entire summer, some sense of resolution should be weaving itself together for you. A coalescing force of integrity and authenticity to ones truer essence, clearing of heart spaces for new creations that fire up deeper parts of your soul, and a greater actualization of independence may all be integrating for the next little while.
The weekend of the 23rd / 24th brings two trigger points to the asteroid Chiron, who holds the archetype of the wounded healer in the sign of the warrior, Aries. The 3rd and final trine from Venus hits on the 23rd, the medicine of this harmonious fire trine may be a softening towards oneself, understanding the ways one has functioned in the past, when far more wounded aspects of ones soul and karma was steering the ship. This forge of fire energy has allowed one to face the realities of how that wounded warrior has perpetuated the same trauma it had experienced, and then bringing in a deeper forgiveness to oneself, after processing the pain - not bypassing the emotions but feeling them deeply and really feeling the shift of energy that happens in the heart after this process is complete. The very next day we have the warrior planet Mars at 18 degrees of Libra, which is currently ruling over Chiron, making a direct opposition to Chiron. There may be clashes of deeply held opinions that get activated around this time, as oppositions tend to bring in projections from our external environment. As Venus is ruling Mars, remember to soften the blows by hearing what is said, not taking it personally and weighing ones care-fully mediated response. Take this opportunity to 1. understand where one’s own wounds are potentially attracting this energy, trying to hold a thread of gratitude to see them for what they are and catalyzing the necessary healing work, and/or 2. where other’s wounds are playing out with you as a prime target for their own work that is unseen. It’s rarely a one or the other event. The world is an incredibly complex and tangled web of energies.
Monday the 25th brings a lovely Earth trine between Mercury at 15 degrees of Virgo and Jupiter at 15 degrees of Taurus. Maybe waiting for this day to respond to the events of the wounded weekend warriors is wise. The grounded and precise communication that Mercury brings forth in its home sign is expanded upon by Jupiter’s sage wisdom. The deep seated fear and insecurities that the Mars / Chiron opposition flung about may be held in the embrace of Taurus’ solid and nourishing presence, a window of receptivity may be opened here.
Early in the bright darkness of Friday the 29th we have the Aries Full Moon at 6 degrees of the cardinal signs that represent Spring and Fall. One thing to consider here involves looking back to the Aries New Moon we had on March 21st, right after the spring equinox. What seeds of action were planted then that may now be coming to fruition? This Full Moon is a culmination point where ideas around peace and what is worth fighting for come to a head. Be on alert for impacts to the head. At the same time Venus is squaring Uranus for the 3rd time, a challenging aspect that may suddenly awaken and shift the heart’s desires to its newly aligned values of self. Unnecessary pride may be taken down a notch.
Mercury has a potent line up of aspects the next several days. The 30th we have Mercury in a harmonious trine to its higher octave planet of Uranus. This brings forth a clear understanding of what was catalyzed the day before with Venus’ aspect. Spend this day in deep listening to your guides, Source, God… communications will be lit! Two days later, on Oct 2nd, Mercury opposes the dreamer of the cosmos Neptune. Watch for illusory deceptions that manifest in the world around you, Both planets are in the final decans of their home signs, so there are powerful energies at play. Pay attention to how messages can be filtered through others spiritual lenses and filters. Distortions, misunderstandings and general spiritual messiness may pop up. But don’t worry, cause Pluto makes its entrance the 3rd of October, as Mercury trines the planet of the soul. Deeper layers of understanding for the journey of the soul may come through, again, listening for these whispers from the universe will help you to build out another section of your personal map for navigating the mission of the soul this time around. See what manifestations present themselves and sense into where they are steering your ship. Finally Mercury enters Venus ruled Libra on the 4th, where it will reside pretty much the rest of this zodiacal season, moving into Scorpio Oct 21st. Ones words get a coating of honey, the charm quotient is heightened. This will be an assist to Mars as it conjuncts the South Node of the Moon the same day. Karmic or past life detritus gets a blast, and the sooth saying that Mercury brings forth could help in mediating the potential fall out relationally. This Mars - South Node conjunction could be seen as a pre-purge of what the upcoming Solar Eclipse will be catalyzing 10 days later.
A few days later on Sunday the 8th we gratefully receive a powerful square between Mars at 27 degrees Libra and its higher octave planet Pluto in Capricorn. What does it look like when the co-rulers of the Underworld clash? Power plays and battles may be initiated between the justice oriented Mars in Libra and Pluto in the dying degrees of the crumbling empire of Capricorn. When Pluto is activated like this, the horror show of foundations are revealed. Disgust and anger are appropriate reactions. And then what? How does this energy get channeled into actions that are serving our higher selves and culture that we are evolving towards? At the same time the portal of the Venus retrograde cycle ends, she has cleared the final degrees of Leo and steps into the mutable Earth sign of Virgo. At this first degree of Virgo she will conjunct the royal fixed star Regulus, the heart of the lion. In her morning star phase her warrior energy is amplified and crossing the path of this powerful star will feel like an anchoring of this energy in the center of ones being, a welcome reward after the long retrograde journey and lessons throughout the entire summer. In Virgo, Venus is no longer playing “nice'“. She knows who she is and will no longer sacrifice herself in service to others or to collective ideations that she knows are bullshit. Relationships get a thorough peeling away of layers here, pleasure and fuzzy, warm feelings pushed aside for this window of time that runs through early November. There is much to gain from the introspective nature of this process in the long run. Venus also opposes Saturn the very next day, a sobering reality of what no longer works in said relationships may land, most likely rooted in deeper karmic / spiritual realms. Thus begins the peeling of the layers.
Pluto turns direct Oct 10th, at 27 degrees of Capricorn, while the Sun opposes Chiron at 17 degrees of Aries. While on the evening of the 11th we have Mars, the warrior planet, moving into its fixed water home of Scorpio. All three of these feel like they may amplify and accelerate the fallout of the multi-faceted wars we have all been part of for many years. Keep in mind we are now on the event horizon of the full Solar Eclipse as well, so these next few days will be getting signs and messages of what is being purged from our collective and personal karma, it’s rarely a pretty picture, really quite horrific, but a necessary process in our soul’s evolution. Mars is now back in a place of power, effectively able to strategize and navigate the unseen terrain of dark forces that perpetuate large scale death in its many forms; ego death, emotional loss, physical death and so on. Pluto will slowly start to do another karmic scraping of the constructs of empire, expect more crumblings of what has woven this manufactured reality together. (Note that Pluto will get one final finishing move here at the end of Capricorn next “fall” before it fully anchors in the future dystopia of Aquarius for 20 years.) Mars will trine Saturn on Friday the 13th where it is still retrograde in the early degrees of Pisces. The two most challenging planets working in harmony in the depths of the most spiritual water signs could work in some interesting ways. One avenue I see could be via Mars’ devotion to penetrating the absolute depths of ones hidden soul that breaks through some constructions of external authority that have been erected by the collective consciousness, helping each one of us to realize our own inner authority that is rooted in our personal relationship with Spirit. False spiritual authority and its misguided ideations that have controlled the definition of truth, which is a deviation from capital T - Truth, may have a few more foundational beams incinerated to ash.
The Solar Eclipse at 21 degrees of Libra hits exactly at 10:59 AM on Oct 14th for those of us on Pacific time. This super charged New Moon portal happens on Ketu, the tail of the dragon where karmic energy is released. The more you can anchor to your central axis and let go of what is shifting around you, the easier the flow for these next few weeks. Eclipses are the cosmic game of Boggle where the invisible hand of Fate pushes down on the bubble of our atmosphere to shake shit up. Let it happen and observe the deeper implications of why such-and-such is leaving your life at this time. Use it as an opportunity to cultivate a deeper trust in the divine plan the universe holds for us. If you ever want to make God laugh, make a plan.
Thursday the 19th brings a Mercury - Sun conjunction at 25 degrees of Libra, conjunct the South Node of the Moon. This activates the energies of the eclipse we just experienced on another level, whispers from previous incarnations could come through in relational interactions, feel into the deeper threads that are weaving your soul’s many lives together. Mercury being under the beams of the Sun means that our mental frameworks are undergoing a rebirth and transformation that will not be clearly seen or understood until early November when it shifts about 15 degrees ahead of the Sun. The next couple of days Mercury and then the Sun will exactly square Pluto, bringing another cosmic poke in the side that challenges our mental perceptions of reality and how these thoughtforms inhibit our vitality. There is a waning and deepening energy here as these two planets have crossed the quarter threshold of Pluto’s orbit and are drawing closer to an event horizon event when they will conjunct the depths of the soul planet in several months.
Saturday the 21st not only has the exact Sun - Pluto conjunction, but also we have the gift of a beautiful trine between Venus at 12 degrees of Virgo and Jupiter at 12 Taurus. The Earth energy that is flowing between the two benefics may bring tangible gifts our way that help us to create some stability in the midst of the eclipse portal we are in. Discern with your heart and receive the wisdom it carries within. Late this evening Mercury makes its entrance into Scorpio, in trine to Saturn in Pisces that is back at the very first degree of the waters of universal consciousness. Access to underground emotional rivers that hold unknown gems is granted. Our mental focus sharpens and drives a penetrating gaze into these dark waters where ancient stagnation lies in wait for our discovery. Attention brings energy and movement to these wounds and grudges that only hold us captive. A fitting end to this action packed season of Libra, and perfect preparation for what awaits in Scorpio.
